I'm back with an EXPLORER!

Just picked up this BEAST to be my winter vehicle.

96' V8 2WD. 162k on the clock. Paid $1400 for it, the exterior is god awful ugly (gold is my absolute most hated color) and the interior is pretty beat, but the drivetrain is pretty solid. Getting a bit of tranny shudder at 45-55, a bit of power steering shake, and it supposedly needs an EGR valve (although I found a huge hole in the air filter, which may be the cause of the CEL). Also has the classic Explorer lean, drivers side is a good inch lower than the pass. side. Still rides nice however, no squeaks or rattles and it drives surprisingly smooth on the highway.

Tomorrow I will do some minor tune up items and do a DEEP cleaning on the interior!

If anyone is wondering, the bug shield and front plate bracket are already gone

is it my headgasket or could it be the heater control valve leaking? how would i know if the HCV is leaking?

Looks like I'm moving to FL!

Well it looks like I'm moving to Florida within the next couple months. I've just had enough of New Jersey and I'm looking to make a nice change for myself. I am about to get engaged (finally) within the next month and I'll probably be moving out around January 1 2011.

I'll most likely either end up in the Jacksonville or Orlando area. Are there any ExplorerX members down there possibly?

I have two options for employment. I'm either trying to get a job in IT (with anyone who will pay reasonably) or I will be working for another company which is guaranteed to me but I won't be doing IT with that company. If anyone has any networking contacts in those areas let me know!

I'm also checking out two schools in the area down there for an MBA program. I won't start immediately, but probably within the next year or so. It'll be a good feeling to go back to school (at night of course) and continue my education, I think it's important if you can afford to do so.

Alright so that's what is going on with me!

Mustang GT 5.0 vs BMW E90 M3

Wow, I'm really impressed!

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/08/24/video-mt-pits-mustang-gt-5-0-against-bmw-m3/

For me, the stock dampers needs to go. Imagine it with a aftermarket setup/chassis. It will surely cure some of the body roll and brake dive.

I'm actually so impressed that I'm considering a Stang as my next car. Sure the M3 is much more of a precision drive, but the Ford is a great deal, lots of bang for the buck. Lets hope it's better than an Evo X which is another contender

Expensive dealership repair!

Well my wife and I were at the local dealership picking her 2001 Escape up and we stumbled across something. That something was a 2010 Ford Edge Sport that my wife fell in love with. We have been looking for something to replace my Explorer or her Escape for the last year or so. Our choices were an F150, Sport Trac, or the Edge and my 4 month old son has defiantly influenced our choices.

Our first impressions of the Edge are everything we were expecting and the Sport has so many freaking options! The 3.5lt v6 isn't bad on performance but the AWD makes it feel a little sluggish off the line. The ride is so quiet and comfortable even with the low profile tires. We have only driven it about 30 miles since we picked it up yesterday and will be taking it on a longer trip here in a few weeks. I am eager to see how it feels on a long ride.

Alright, on with the pictures! More to come, wife had to leave for work before I could snap more pictures after a fresh wash and detail.

Need Help Alternator Issue Asap!

Ok here is my problem I have a 2000 Ford Explorer with the 4.0 OHV engine in it and lately I have been having this issue. The battery light keeps coming on after I have hit a bump or something, I wiggle the little white wire with the black stripe and the light goes off. My friend told me that this wire just goes to the gauge cluster. If I unplug the wire will my battery drain? Or will it run just normal and fine and just the gauge will say its low on power and the red battery light will stay on please ASAP someone help me out here. Here is a pic of the alternator and that single white wire with the black stripe.

SALEEN XP8 Front Bumper FS!

What I have here is an original very rare SALEEN XP8 front bumper cover. It is in excellent condition and fits the Ford Explorer years 1995-2001. I have owned this piece for a few years now and have decided to get rid of my Explorer but would much rather this go to a collector or someone in need of the piece. This bumper is no longer in production and from what I've read is one of 120 produced for the XP8. Making this a very rare item.

Future 4th gen owner...

Well our 2nd gen 1999 XLT 5.0 finally took a dump after 215,000 miles. Really can't complain as we got more than our money's worth out of it. I am 90% positive we were even on the stock transmission as well. We just took extremely good care of it.

We want to keep a SUV in the family so we are looking at getting a 2009 or 2010 Ford Explorer (lightly used) soon to replace it. I have no idea if we are going to get a XLT or Limited, but I guess it'll depend more on what models are available and if the price is right.

That said, does anyone have any recommendations or things to watch out for? I believe the 2006 model had the problem with the springs, like IAmTodd's parents did?

I appreciate any info...and of course I'll update everyone with news as I get it.

Out with the old, in with the new!
