I have been asked a few times about how to install a chip. This is only for chips, not tuners that plug in under the dash.
Tools needed:
- Flathhead screwdriver or sharp instrument.
- 10mm socket or wrench
- 11mm deep socket or wrench
- Scotch Rite pad or steel wool
- Tape
These are the two different types of chips. One is an SCT chip and one is an Apten chip (developed from a Diablo Sport chip).
Locate your PCM inside your engine bay. Look on the firewall to the left. It will have a single bolt holding in the wiring harness.
Remove the bolt with the wiring harness attached. Use the 10mm socket or wrench.
Remove the PCM holding plate using an 11mm socket or wrench.
Pull the PCM out of the slot.
When looking at the back of your PCM, you will notice a plate. Pry the plate off with a flathead screwdriver or sharp instrument. Once the plate is off, you will see the PCM port.
Use the Scotch Rite pad or steel wool to clean the clearcoat off the pins. Do not scrub too hard. You will see when you have gone far enough because there will be scratch marks on the pins themselves.
The pins will look like this when clean:
Once the pins are clean, slide you chip onto the pins. This is a picture of the Apten style chip. It slides into the PCM. The SCT style chip has a lip on the outside of the PCM.
Tape the chip into place. This will keep the PCM in place from vibration, etc. You can use Duct Tape, clear tape, etc.
Once you have the chip installed, reinstall the PCM. Start your vehicle and take a ride!
