The Saleen XP6 has an interesting story. As the popular legend goes, Saleen bought the stock Explorers from Ford on special order. What happened in one particular instance however, was that a very limited order of Explorers were not what Saleen wanted - a four door, V6 Explorer XLT. That's right, a six cylinder. Rather than go through with the hassle of returning the "order" and obtaining V8's (expense, hassle, etc), Saleen simply went ahead anyway and outfitted the V6 models with the bodykit and so forth. They were not supercharged, however, and only very minor performance modifications were done (mainly the brakes, which ultimately were defective and replaced with stock Explorer configurations). And thus, the Saleen XP6 was born. If you've ever personally seen one, consider yourself a lucky one.

The Saleen XP6 isn't what you would exactly call "significant" - it's basically an Explorer with only a few minor performance modifications and of course the Saleen bodykit. Other than the bodykit, anyone can easily slap in a new exhaust, a supercharger, an air intake kit and outperform the XP6. Of course, it still has its appeal. Here are the performance results for the XP6 (Source: Saleen):

Saleen XP6
Engine
Bore & Stroke: 3.95in x 3.32in
Displacement: 4.0L / 245cid
Compression Ratio: 9.7:1
Horsepower: 205hp / 5,000 RPM
Torque: 250lb/ft / 3,000 RPM

Drive Train
Transmission: 5 Speed automatic

Brakes
ABS: Three channel, four sensor system
Disc Brakes: Front & Rear
Front: 13in vented disc four piston caliper (optional)
These front disc brakes were eventually recalled and replaced with stock Explorer calipers, again due to lack of structural integrity.
